Canada has developed a global reputation for producing stellar winter coats, with Canada Goose and Moose Knuckles garnering fans around the world. But other brands have steadfastly built a reputation for another seasonal staple – the winter boot.

While most Canadians likely own a winter boot worthy of withstanding Arctic chills and mountains of snow, now is the time to shop the end-of-season sales to accommodate a multitude of winter weather patterns. Whether you blame climate change or not, you have to admit the winter months are no longer a frozen, white-out affair, and they can go on and on into spring. They can also be wild and wet or mild and balmy. So the sales are a great place to look for boots you previously dismissed as a stylish indulgence. And you’ll be ready for next year..

We rounded up a few Canadian brands now on sale to help you put a fashionable, warm foot forward when you’re ready to give the winter doldrums a fierce kick.

The Rapisardi/Ron White Caliana All-Over Velvet boot, $395, now $150, at ronwhiteshoes.com

It’s not surprising that Ron White is known as the shoe guru of Canada. The entrepreneur has poured his soul into the science of soles, and re-engineered the shoe by introducing a NASA-invented material called Poron to the line he calls All Day Heels.

While his stores stock practical winter boots, this sumptuous velvet version addresses that perennial winter conundrum: the need for a fashionable boot to wear during chilly winter evenings out on the town. Of course, that particular evening must be free of slush and snow. For those who hate lugging evening shoes to the theatre or opera and changing footwear at the coat check, this is the answer.  Added bonus:  it’s one boot you can wear year round.
