Every fall, a Great Jewellery Heist takes place in Toronto. But instead of alarm sirens and anxiety, it’s an occasion greeted with compassion and caring.

For the past nine years, the city’s fashionable and well-heeled gather for a luncheon jewellery auction at an elegant hotel to raise funds for an important cause and for the opportunity to bid on a unique piece of jewellery.

Always a hot ticket on the social calendar, this year’s Great Jewellery Heist charity luncheon takes place on Nov. 1 at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Toronto with all proceeds to support Bridgepoint Active Healthcare. Part of the Sinai Health System, this 464-bed facility is a unique hospital specializing in treating people with multiple and complex health conditions. Internationally recognized, it is also the largest such facility in Canada dedicated to research, teaching and care of people with complex health issues.

The event’s auction (anyone can bid online until Nov. 1) will feature more than 50 unique pieces of jewellery donated by collectors and designers and includes fine, semi-precious, vintage and estate pieces. The lineup includes items from the renowned Carole Tanenbaum Vintage Collection and the works of Canadian jewellery designers such as Alan Anderson, Paul McClure and Dominique Audette.

The event is presented by BMO, and the auction is curated by the event chair, jewellery expert Isabelle Fish. “Heist is more than a delicious luncheon and chance to take home great pieces of jewellery,” she says in a statement. “Guests leave with a sense of inspiration and empowerment after hearing how the Bridgepoint teams transform lives through innovation, passion and dedication.”

The auction also features three specially commissioned pieces, not only with a theme of health and wellness but a meeting of Old World and the future. There is a necklace up for grabs made of traditional materials like gold-plated brass but created in part by 3-D printing.

Over the years, the Great Jewellery Heist has raised more than $2.1 million net for Bridgepoint Active Healthcare.
